In response to the EU’s Lisbon objective of becoming the world’s most competitive knowledge-based economy by 2010, the Commission adopted a proposal, for the establishment of MODINIS, a three year funding programme (2003-2005). The programme looks to identify best practice, analyze economic and societal consequences of the information society, improve network security and foster the development of broadband rollout and monitoring performance of Member States. MODINIS and BReATH can mutually benefit from the project activities especially with respect to the identification of the best practices of broadband access deployment and the dissemination efforts of BReATH.
