ADHOCSYS – Wireless Ad Hoc Broadband Monitoring System is a two-year European project to provide reliable broadband services in rural and mountain regions. This objective will be achieved by means of the creation of a wireless ad hoc broadband network, with special enhancements to reliability and availability. The network consists of one or several gateways connecting to the global Internet and several intermediate nodes which provide multihop connections between the gateways and end users.
This network architecture provides a pragmatic solution to the problems that may affect reliability and QoS. Fixed backbone nodes can be easily installed and maintained. Ad-Hoc networking routing protocols allow for creating multiple redundant paths towards a gateway, to assure broadband provision in case of failure of a single node or in case of temporary poor link quality due to adverse weather conditions.
The project started in November 2005 and will last until November 2007.
