ALIPRO is an IST-3 SSA project which ran from March 2005 to March 2006 and aimed at supporting the alignment of the new member states’ national and regional research programmes with European IST research in the area of mobile technologies, applications, and services. The project focused on the strategic objective ‘To progress towards the achievement of the objectives of a European Research Area in a given IST field’ (2.3.6.3, IST Call 3), in particular addressing a number of fields in the strategic objectives ‘Mobile and wireless systems beyond 3G’ (FP6 IST-1) and ‘Applications and services for the mobile user and worker’ (FP6 IST-2). ALIPRO would accelerate the creation, improvement, and alignment of mobility-related national and regional activities and programmes in NMSs and ACCs, strengthening their integration on European level. ALIPRO would achieve this goal through benchmarking, vision-building and roadmapping as well as through dissemination of the results to the relevant stakeholders in the NMSs and ACCs. The project was run by a consortium of 13 organisations from all NMSs, from the ACCs Romania and Turkey, and from OMS Germany.

BReATH consortium partners Eurescom and Josef Stefan Institute (IJS) are also partners in ALIPRO. As the geographical scope and some targeted stakeholders of both projects are similar, the close link to ALIPRO is expected to increase the impact of BReATH’s dissemination activities, e.g. through improved coordination of events and early identification of topical points of contact. Eurescom, having a leading role in the dissemination activities of ALIPRO, will serve as a ‘node’ for BReATH towards ALIPRO.
