DIADEM Firewall is a project from the 6th Framework Programme of EU. The DIADEM consortium is comprised of telecom operators (France Telecom, Polish Telecom) and research and academic partners (IMB Research Zurich, Imperial Colleage London, University of Tübingen, Groupe des Ecoles des Télécommunications, Jozef Stefan Institute). The vision of the project is to develop a novel and comprehensive security solution for secure broadband services, by combining the following: flexible implementation techniques for high-speed packet processing, algorithms for intrusion detection and policy-based techniques for automated configuration and decision-handling. The project aims for the general goal of development and deployment of innovative network components that enable service providers to offer to their customers secure broadband services in an effective and cost-efficient way. The architecture ensures high performance in combination with functional flexibility using programmable hardware for classification, filtering, sampling and measurements. The BReATH project can benefit from DIADEM project in various ways: with a transfer of knowledge regarding distributed security solutions in broadband access networks through workshops and seminars and technology transfer of solutions (hardware and software) for violation detection, distributed policy based firewall element management, monitoring and high speed classification that can secure a broadband network and protect its users (end users, SMEs, service providers) despite of malicious usage of the network (including DoS and DDoS attacks). On the other hand the BReATH project can be used to promote the knowledge and technology developed within the EU founded programme.
