The Special Interest Group targeting Slovenia has been officially setup on 6 April 2006. If you are interested in joining and contributing to the goals of the SIG, please read the section ‘How to join?’.

Subject

The subject of the SIG Slovenia is “Broadband for all in Slovenia”.

Goals

The main goal of the SIG Slovenia “Broadband for all in Slovenia” is to influence, support and contribute to the development of broadband accessibility, which means building the necessary infrastructure and developing and providing appropriate e-services. The final goal is to bring broadband access to every home, educational institution and company in Slovenia.

The SIG is meant to include all relevant stakeholders in the broadband domain in order to transfer information about best practices and to facilitate the building of partnerships between the relevant stakeholders. The SIG will thus stimulate the creation of a positive environment for broadband development in Slovenia. The SIG will also facilitate collaboration on research projects.

Activities

SIG workshop

On 8 September 2006, IJS organized a workshop titled “Today and tomorrow of BB in Slovenia”, following up on the successful local workshop in Ljubljana on 5 April 2006. The following SIG members took part:

  • Telekom Slovenije: the incumbent Slovenian telecommunication operator
  • AMIS: the second biggest ISP in Slovenia
  • T2: the new entrant on the ICT market (they also gave a presentation at the Slovenian workshop on 5 April)
  • Telemach: the largest cable operator that offers IP services
  • Mariborski Kabel: the second largest cable operator that offers IP services
  • representatives of the regulative bodies and government.

The event was moderated by Prof. Borka Jerman-Blazic.
